Darushifa walk: Walking a Munn map in Darushifa

Witness the two historical sites Darushifa and Azakhana-e- Zehra as a part of this trial will use the  first municipal survey maps of Hyderabad city called Munn maps. 

These are the city maps designed by famous 20th century cartographer Leonard Munn which are now  part of Kalakriti Archives collections. This walk is designed to give the insight of the Shia culture of Hyderabad and how the city was planned after the 1908 floor with some special flood  HFL markers in this part of the city.

The term Dar in Arabic denotes house and Dar-ul-shifa translates to 'House of Health'. The hospital was built by the founder of the city of Hyderabad, Mohammed Quli Qutb Shah in 1591 and was the first two-storeyed hospital to be constructed in the medieval period. It was built on the banks of the River Musi and had a residential medical college, a quarantine system, and around 300 beds. Unani or Yunani which is a perso-arabic traditional Muslim medicinal practice was practiced here.

Wear Indian clothes and shoes for the experience. Carry a scarf to cover your head, as will be visiting two religious places. Parking facilities for buses or cars are available at the Darulshifa football ground.

Meet your heritage walk director in the starting point Darulshifa Footbal ground. The heritage walk director will explain to you about Shia culture and design of the area through Munn Map.
