Purana Pul: The Great Musi Flood Walk

Well researched module / trail designed by IFA fellow of 2019 to understand the Great Musi flood of Hyderabad. This was one of the most devastating events of Hyderabad which the city witnessed more than 100 years ago.  

In September 1908 the city was ruined by the 3days continue rain and a flood occurred which destroyed  most  areas around  Purana Pul.  During the walk you will notice some HFL points or markings on different areas which denote the flood levels in the city.

Quick Info

The English translation of the term Purana Pul is Old Bridge and as the name suggests, it is one of the oldest bridges in the city. It was built in the year 1578 by the Qutb Shahi dynasty and served as a gateway to the city of Hyderabad.

This bridge once connected Golconda to the city of Hyderabad and is today famous for its vegetable market.

Advisory:

Wear comfortable Indian clothes and shoes for the experience. Carry a head scarf or wear caps for covering your head. We will visit a masjid and Dargah during the heritage walk.

Meet your heritage walk director at the Purana Pul. The heritage walk director exlain the historical event with help of archival photos and Munn maps from the Kalakriti Archives collections.
