TIMELES Historical Walks

Dewan Deori: Are you looking for Dewan Deodi?

This trail is actually like a treasure hunt for the locals of Hyderabad as you have to look for one of the magnificent Deodi’s  during Nizam time. You must have heard of the name Dewan Deodi, the personal residential palace of the Salar Jung family which was situated near Afzalgunj bridge. Now only a gateway(Kaman) is visible with a lot of hoarding and banners which are in pale yellow color remaining from the whole structure of Dewan Deori.

During the heritage walk there will cross many new shops, vendors, transporters and cargo carriers on the street which was once the part of Dewan Deodi royal palace of the Salar Jung family. Inside this deodi(royal palace)  Salar jung museum was  first set up with a personal collection of Mir Yousuf Khan.  Using the Munn map, I will  understand the hidden gems of Dewan Deodi.

Quick Info

The Deodi over decades expanded in size and grandeur and at its zenith occupied a whole block on the Pattharghati high road. It had numerous opulent chambers in it such as the Aina Khana (Reception Room), China House, treasury, Diwan Khana or Durbar Hall, mardana, zenana, silent movie house, and Lakkad Kot to name a few. Its library was heaped with around 8000 manuscripts and 29,000 printed books covering diverse subjects.
