Located on the coveted Deccan plateau, Hyderabad boasts of a richly textured past. The city was established by Quli Qutub Shah in 1591 when the rulers decided to move beyond the fortified Golconda to build a new city.

The 17th century brought with it rapid expansions of the Mughal empire under Shah Jahan; Hyderabad was one of the cities to be annexed at this time.

In the wake of the tumultuous 18th century, Hyderabad was reestablished as the capital city of the new Asaf Jahi dynasty who proclaimed themselves the nizams of Hyderabad. The city was home to the Nizams for over two centuries before ultimately acceding to the Indian union in 1948.
Hyderabad is truly a cosmopolitan city with its unique blend of cultures, traditions and practices producing a kind of soulful syncretism that is unlike any other.
